A 65ft 1991 Kennet & Avon Boatbuilders 6 berth traditional stern narrowboat.
Built in the classic 'working boat' style, Gra-I-Am is an extremely attractive and thoughtfully laid-out boat, with much to recommend her to the traditional boat enthusiast. In the days before central heating, boats were built with solid fuel stoves to both stern and bow, together with a central engine room. This boat has all that and central heating too!
Externally Gra-I-Am boasts a handsome green and cream livery, and the hull was last blacked in 2019.
Stepping into the boat from the stern, the first cabin is a lovely example of a historic 'Boatman's cabin'. The woodwork is beautifully decorated in Roses & Castles designs and the cupboards can be extended to provide a cosy double berth next to the engine room.
A much admired Russell Newbury engine features in the engine room, and there are side hatches to each side of the boat to provide ventilation here.
Next to the engine room is a dedicated bedroom cabin, containing a double berth with carved wooden newel post, a decorative overhead canopy and various cupboards and shelves.
There is a pretty stained glass window in the bathroom, which also offers a shower cubicle, washbasin, pump out toilet, and additional storage space.
The galley has plentiful work surfaces to both sides, and is fitted with a freestanding oven, sink and drainer, 12v fridge and space for both a washing machine and a microwave.
There is a large saloon area, currently containing a sofa bed and easy chair, a further solid fuel stove, and more storage space by way of shelves and cupboards. Steps lead up to the enclosed bow deck which has seating to either side and a pull-down table.
Lined throughout in tongue & groove panelling, viewing is highly recommended to fully appreciate all the boat has to offer.
